Weapons & Equip - More Things for the Summoner Early Game (2024)

As of now, the summoner is one of my favorite classes in terraria! It is very fun to play, but there is one problem, Summoner has nowhere near as much content as the other classes. Introducing, new items for summoner!

EARLY GAME

Early on, summoner is at a huge disadvantage. The only early game weapon for him is the slime staff, which is ludicrously rare. He also has no early game armor to help him on his quest!

Early game Summoning gear, the Living Wood armor set.

Crafted at a living loom with wood, this set will help summoners to start their journey!

Living Wood Helmet (Wood at a living loom)

Defense - 2
Increases your minions damage by 2%

Living Wood Chestpeice (Wood at a living loom)
[Sprite]
Defense - 3
Increases your max number of minions by 1!
Increases minion damage by 4%

Living Wood Leggings (Wood at a living loom)
[Sprite]
Defense - 2
Increases your minions damage by 2%

SET BONUS - 6% increased minion damage

This early summoner set also comes with some weaponry!

Living Wood Staff (Wood at a living loom)
[Sprite]
Damage - 6 Summoning Damage
Knockback - Very Weak
Mana - 5
Summoning Weapon Style - Like the Pygmy Staff
*The living wood staff is a downgraded pygymy staff. It summons little wood groot people to throw twigs at your enemies!*

Ancient Tree Staff (Wood at a living loom)
[Sprite]
Damage - 10 Summoning Damage
Knockback - Strong
Mana - 10
*This staff summons a turret minion, an ancient tree that shoots razor leaves at your enemies*

Mid Game

Summoner is also missing many weapons toward the mid game! I feel like there could be two weapons to help this!

Demonic Pillar Staff (Crafted with Hellstone bars)
[Sprite]
Damage - 18
Knockback - Strong
Mana - 10
*Summons a demonic temple that shoots demon scythe at your enemies!*

Clanky Gears Staff (Dropped from WOF)
[Sprite]
Damage - 20
Knockback - Strong
Mana - 10
Summoning Weapon Style - Rush and contact damage
*Summons floating gears to defeat your enemies!*

Also after the mechanical bosses, summoner can have trouble beating Plantera, due to how weak the spider armor at this point, I introduce a new armor!

The Cyber Armor Set (Crafted from 1 soul of each of the mech bosses and 1 hallowed bar to make 1 Cybernetic Bar)

Cyber Helmet (Cybernetic Bars)
[Sprite]
Defense - 6
Increases your max number of minions
Increases minion damage by 8%

Cyber Breastplate (Cybernetic Bars)
[Sprite]
Defense - 11
Increases your max number of minions
Increases minion damage by 8%

Cyber Leggings (Cybernetic Bars)
[Sprite]
Defense - 9
Increases your max number of minions
Increases minion damage by 8%

SET BONUS - Increases Minion damage by 7%
Increases number of minions by 1

Cyber Turret Staff (Crafted from Cyber Bars)
[Sprite]
Damage - 40
Knockback - Very Strong
Mana - 10
Summoning weapon type - Shoots a beam that stays on enemies it is firing at, can slow down enemies hurt by knockback (Kinda like symettra's turrets)
*Summons a Cybernetic Turret to fire lasers at enemies for you!*

END GAME

Summoner also does not have too many items near the end of the game either! I feel there should be more items to help out the summoner end game.

Xeno Armor (Crafted from Martian Conduit Plating and Chlorophyte bars to create Xenomorphic Bars)

Xeno Helmet (Xenomorphic Bars)

Defense - 8
Increases max number of minions by 1
Increases minion damage by 15%

Xeno Plate (Xenomorphic Bars)
[Sprite]
Defense - 17
Increases max number of minions by 2
Increases minion damage by 14%

Xeno Leggings (Xenomorphic Bars)
[Sprite]
Defense - 11
Increases Max number of minions by 1
Increases minion damage by 15%

SET BONUS - Either = + 1 Defense for each minion you have out / Summons a small space ship to shoot where your cursor is at

Finally, I would add 1 new stardust weapon. I also think they should buff the Stardust armor to have more defense, and give the Stardust guardian more knockback and Damage.

Summoning Weapon Type - Turret

Gameplay Mechanics

Finally, I think that when holding a summoning staff out, and right clicking on an enemies, your minions of that staff should be targetted to where you clicked, and a little red cursor will appear over what enemy was targetted. I feel by adding this, the summoner would have a lot more strategy involved, and it would also give a reason to use different minions together, so you can target multiple creatures at once, of course, you can also right click again on the enemy to remove the cursor, and let your minions act as as normal, using their A.I and attack what is near.

PVP Viability

With the targeting feature, it would be possible to make summoning weapons usable in pvp. I believe they could work as when you turn on pvp, your minions get a healthbar according to how good they are, and can be killed by other players. After being killed, there would be a cooldown to how long it can be until summonable again (probably around 10-15 seconds)

I hope that the summoner may be fleshed out soon, and it can become the amazing class it has the potential to be.
